Prayer helps us stay connected to God and brings peace into our lives. Even if we don’t see results right away, making prayer a daily habit will strengthen our faith and bring us closer to Him.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." — Philippians 4:6 (ESV)
This verse reminds us that prayer is not just important—it’s essential. It teaches us to turn to God in every situation, bringing our worries, needs, and gratitude to Him.
"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." — Philippians 4:7 (ESV)
When we bring our concerns to God in prayer, He fills us with peace. Even when life feels overwhelming, God’s peace can calm our hearts and minds, giving us strength to face each day.
Therefore, we should prioritize prayer by making it a daily habit. The problem is that life can be super busy for most of us, and sometimes, it feels like there’s no time for prayer. That shouldn't be! If we want to grow closer to God, we must make time for prayer.
Prayer isn’t just something on our to-do list —it’s our lifeline. This means making time for prayer and putting our plans on hold when they conflict with the best plan: God's will.
Easy Ways to Add Prayer to Your Day
If we just take a close look at our everyday schedule, we can see pockets of time to make prayer a part of our routine without feeling rushed or stressed. Consider the following tips to find time to pray despite your busy life.
1. Just Start
Although the Bible says "pray continually," it doesn't mean praying non-stop for hours. Five minutes in the morning or before bed can make a big difference. Once we get used to it, we may find ourselves praying even more.
2. Make Prayer Part of Your Morning Routine
A great way to start the day is by reading a Bible verse or saying a short prayer. We can do this when we wake up, before drinking coffee, or after breakfast. Praying for our loved ones before they start their day is a wonderful habit.
3. Pray When You Hear a Siren
Hear an ambulance or fire truck siren? Take a moment to say a quick prayer for someone out there who is in need. Our prayers can make a difference in the life of someone, even a total stranger.
4. Say Grace at Mealtime
Before eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner, take a moment to thank God for the food. Praying before a meal is a way to show our gratitude to God for His blessings -- for providing food and nourishment. It’s a moment to recognize that all good things, including our meals, come from God. It helps us remember that God provides for our needs, physically and spiritually.
5. Spend Time in Prayer as a Family
After dinner, try setting aside time to pray together. It doesn’t have to be long—even a few minutes can help your family feel more connected to God and to each other. As the saying goes, a family that prays together stays together.
6. Follow Your Heart
Sometimes, we might feel the sudden urge to check on a friend or loved one. That could be God nudging us to pray for them. When that happens, take a moment to lift them up in prayer.
7. Pray While Doing Simple Tasks
Prayer doesn't have to mean sitting down or kneeling alone in a room. You can pray even while doing certain tasks. Some activities don’t need your full attention, like folding laundry, washing dishes, or taking a walk. These moments are great times to talk to God. Just tell Him whatever you feel like telling Him, like talking to a friend. He is listening.
8. Use Technology to Help
Our phones can be a great tool for building a prayer habit. Set reminders to pause and pray during the day. There are even free prayer apps that give daily prompts or let you write down your thoughts and prayers. Download “The Daily Prayer App” for free and follow the prayer prompts every day based on particular concerns or needs. It can also be a journaling tool to write your thoughts and prayers for the day.
9. End Your Day with Prayer
Before going to sleep, spend a few minutes reading a few Bible verses and thanking God for the day. This helps to calm your mind and bring peace before you rest.
Prayer is one of the most important things we can do as Christians. It's essential for our relationship with God and a way to get closer to him. Because of the many distractions in life, praying is a must, especially if you're busy. Pray whenever you can, as much as you can. It's time well spent that will make our day-to-day life more worthwhile. Make prayer a daily habit.
